Tripura Women Embrace Rajasthani Puppetry in Landmark Skill-Building Initiative

Agartala: A vibrant cultural exchange has taken root in Tripura’s Bamutiya Block, as 30 local women embark on a unique 25-day training program focused on the intricate art of Rajasthani puppetry.

The initiative, a first of its kind in the region, promises to empower participants with valuable skills and open avenues for sustainable income generation.

Under the watchful guidance of West Tripura’s Additional District Magistrate, Megha Jain, the program is designed to provide comprehensive training in both puppet construction and performance. Expert trainers hailing directly from Rajasthan are leading the sessions, sharing their expertise on crafting various types of puppets and mastering the delicate art of puppet dance.

The curriculum extends beyond puppetry, incorporating insights into other Rajasthani handicrafts, broadening the scope of potential livelihood opportunities for the participants. The intensive training schedule will see the women initially focusing on the meticulous process of puppet making, progressing to the intricacies of animation and performance techniques.

Organizers have voiced their optimism that the program will not only benefit the current participants but also foster a ripple effect, enabling them to pass on their newly acquired skills to future generations. Megha Jain emphasized the multifaceted advantages of the initiative, highlighting the potential for participants to earn a respectable living through both puppet performances and the sale of handcrafted puppets.
