Tripura: Women held at Agartala Railway Station For Ganja Smuggling
Agartala: In a significant operation, the joint efforts of Tripura’s Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) have led to the apprehension of two women allegedly involved in drug peddling at the Agartala Railway Station.
The individuals identified as Rasuan Devi, aged 25, and Ranju Devi, aged 30, both hailing from the Katihar district of Bihar, were intercepted while reportedly attempting to transport a substantial quantity of illicit substances to Delhi via train, utilizing Agartala as a transit hub.
Upon inspection, law enforcement officials discovered a total of 4 kilograms and 405 grams of dried cannabis, commonly known as ganja. The contraband was meticulously packaged into eight separate packets and cleverly concealed within two handbags carried by the accused.
Notably, this incident marks the first reported case of drug smuggling of this nature at the Agartala Railway Station. However, during the initial questioning, the arrested duo reportedly confessed to having successfully transported cannabis via train on five previous occasions.
Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that the seized cannabis has an estimated market value of approximately ₹50,000 in Delhi.
Following the successful operation, a formal case has been registered against the two women at the Agartala GRP Police Station under the stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Authorities are actively pursuing leads that suggest the involvement of a wider drug trafficking network, indicating the possibility of further arrests in the ongoing investigation. The authorities have confirmed that detailed investigations are currently in progress to dismantle the potential network.
