Tripura’s Anti-Drug Crackdown Continues as Police Seize Ganja at Agartala Railway Station

Agartala: Agartala police have once again dealt a blow to the state’s drug trade, arresting two men and seizing a significant quantity of ganja at the Agartala Railway Station.

The duo, both hailing from Bihar, was apprehended on the evening of August 24 while allegedly attempting to transport 8.45 kilograms of the contraband out of the state. The seized ganja is estimated to have a black market value of approximately Rs 1.7 lakh.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Sonu Kumar, 31, and Suman Kumar Gupta, 34. Both are residents of the Naya Tola area in Tingachiya, Kathihar district, Bihar. Following their arrest, a case (No. 2025GRP085) was immediately registered against them under sections 20(b)(ii)(B)/29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police sources report that the interrogation of the suspects is ongoing as authorities seek to uncover the full network behind this smuggling attempt.

This latest success adds to a series of recent anti-narcotics operations in Tripura. On August 1, a joint operation by the Border Security Force and Jatrapur Police resulted in a massive seizure of 14,000 Yaba tablets. The drugs, valued at a staggering Rs 1.4 crore, were recovered from a residence and a red Chevrolet Aveo LS car near the border in the Salpokhar area. Three individuals—Sarfraj Ahmed from Meerut, Jubair from Moradabad, and Nazrul Islam from Cooch Behar—were arrested in connection with that operation. These consistent seizures underscore the commitment of Tripura’s law enforcement agencies to curb the rampant drug trafficking that plagues the region.
