Tripura’s ‘Hapong Raja’ Set to Emerge as a Premier Tourist Destination

Agartala: Tripura’s culturally rich and spiritually significant site, ‘Hapong Raja,’ located in the Longtharai Hills of Dhalai district, is on its way to becoming a prime tourist destination. With its deep cultural roots and picturesque landscapes, the site is poised to bolster tourism and the state’s economy.

Recently, Tipra Motha MLA Paul Dangshu, accompanied by tourism officials, engineers, forest officers, and local leaders, visited the site to finalize plans for essential infrastructure development. Highlighting the significance of the location, MLA Paul explained that the name ‘Hapong Raja’ translates to “King of Hills” and is tied to the legendary Unakoti story. The site is home to the revered Shiv Mandir on Longtharai Hill, managed by the Santikali Mission, which draws thousands of devotees annually, particularly during Makar Sankranti, locally known as Hangrai.

MLA Paul emphasized the sacred nature of Hapong Raja, where devotees gather during Purnima and Amavasya for special pujas and offerings. The visit marked a collaborative effort to outline a comprehensive development plan for the site, which includes constructing roads, ensuring water supply, building public toilets, and installing solar-powered lighting. Plans also include a watchtower to offer panoramic views of the surrounding area, as well as beautification efforts to enhance the visitor experience.

Expressing gratitude to Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury for supporting the initiative, Paul shared his vision of transforming Hapong Raja into a world-class tourist destination. “With these initiatives, Hapong Raja will not only preserve its spiritual legacy but also establish itself as a unique attraction, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty and cultural richness,” he remarked.

As the development plans take shape, Hapong Raja is expected to attract more visitors, fostering economic growth while maintaining its sacred heritage.
