Turkey-Syria Earthquake: Death Toll Reaches To 15,000
Guwahati: At least 15,383 people have died as a result of the earthquake that shook Turkey and Syria. According to AFAD, Turkey’s disaster management organisation, up to 12,391 people have died and 62,914 more have been injured as a result of the earthquakes that shook the nation on Monday.
As of right now, 2,992 people have died in Syria. According to CNN, citing the White Helmets, as many as 1,730 people have killed in rebel-held areas of the northwest.
According to CNN, which cited Syrian official media, 1,262 people have killed overall in government-controlled areas of Syria. In both government- and rebel-controlled parts of Syria, there have been 5,108 injuries overall.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the president of Turkey, acknowledged “shortcomings” in the nation’s earthquake response on Wednesday. He emphasised that the extent of the damage brought on by the earthquake has been increased by the weather. Erdogan made the comments while on a visit close to the quake’s epicentre on Monday.
“Of course, there are shortcomings. The conditions are obvious. It is not possible to be prepared for such a disaster. We will not leave any of our citizens uncared for,” CNN quoted Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as saying.
Erdogan said, “No doubt, our job was not easy.” He further said, “As of now, a total of 21,200 personnel, including soldiers, gendarmes, and police, are working in Hatay.”
According to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the state has devoted all of its resources. He said that the two earthquakes, with magnitudes of 7.7 and 7.6, which rocked the country on Monday, caused the collapse of 6,444 buildings.
“We have mobilized all our resources. The state is working with municipalities, especially AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency), with all its means,” Anadolu Agency quoted Erdogan as saying.
According to the Anadolu Agency report, Turkey on Tuesday declared a three-month state of emergency in the earthquake-affected areas. After the terrible earthquakes, Turkey has declared seven days of national mourning. Over 13 million people have been impacted by earthquakes, according to the reports.
According to a CNN report, the Syrian government claims to have set up more than 100 shelters with assistance supplies for earthquake victims in places under its control, including Aleppo, Hama, Homs, Tartus and Latakia.
