Twitter Starts Removing ‘Legacy’ Verified Blue Tick

Guwahati: Twitter removed the traditional blue verified tick from verified accounts on Thursday.

The CEO of twitter Elon Musk had already declared the deadline to compel users to subscribe to Twitter Blue, a premium subscription service.

Only individual Twitter users who pay for Twitter Blue which costs $8 per month via the web and $11 per month via in-app payment on iOS and Android have verified blue checkmarks.

Bollywood superstars like Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Alia Bhatt are among those who have lost their blue ticks as a result of the latest development.

Political figures including West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi have lost their verified blue ticks.

However, a number of cricketers, including Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have lost their verified blue Twitter ticks.

In order to make it easier for users to tell which accounts “of public interest” on Twitter are legitimate and which are fake or parody accounts Twitter originally launched the blue tick mark system in 2009. Previously, the business didn’t charge for verification.

Earlier in March, Twitter posted from their official handle, “On April 1st, we will begin winding down our legacy verified program and removing legacy verified checkmarks. To keep your blue checkmark on Twitter, individuals can sign up for Twitter Blue.”

Even yet, some users who still have a blue tick have got a notice stating that their account “is verified because they were subscribed to Twitter Blue and verified their phone number.”

The blue tick was initially used to safeguard famous individual from imitation and combat misleading information.
