Twitter’s edit tweet button is Finally

Guwahati: The biggest change to Twitter since it became extensively used as a forum for information exchange, even by governments, is the addition of a tool to edit tweets. The edit button will be made available to Twitter Blue subscribers in the upcoming weeks, the social media platform announced.

Until now, content once tweeted cannot be edited. It had to be tweeted again to reflect changes.

How Will It Work?

Users can edit it using the edit button for up to 30 minutes after a tweet has been published.

The updated tweet will be clearly marked with a label, timestamp, and icon when it is published. Moreover, Twitter users will be able to view all the changes made to the original content by clicking the tweet.

Twitter has received several requests to implement a feature that would enable users to alter posts after they have been shared with an estimated 320 million active users. Twitter had long refused to do so despite numerous pleas from users.

Concern Over the Feature

The business would “probably never” offer the “edit tweet” feature, according to then-Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, who stated this in an interview with Wired in 2020, because it could encourage the propagation of false information.

A “edit tweet” option might be used to amend claims after they have been tweeted or endorsed, several tech experts have said.

The undo option on Twitter Blue, which enables users to cancel posting a tweet for up to 30 seconds after pressing the send button, is now joined by the edit button.
