Two Arrested in Human Trafficking Case in Tripura

Northeast Desk, 4th May: In a significant development, the Government Railway Police in Agartala have apprehended two individuals allegedly involved in a human trafficking case in Tripura. Officer-In-Charge of the Government Railway Police Station, Tapas Das, disclosed the details to reporters on Saturday, shedding light on the arrests made following the interrogation of six Bangladeshi nationals detained on April 30 at Agartala Railway Station for illegally crossing the international border.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Goutam Sarkar and Bapan Banik. According to Das, the breakthrough in the case came after the detained Bangladeshi nationals revealed the names of individuals who facilitated their border crossing during interrogation.

“On April 30, we detained six Bangladeshi nationals and arrested one Indian tout. We sent them to court, and after interrogation, they revealed names of some individuals who have helped them in crossing the border. Based on this, yesterday we arrested two persons from Sidhai under Mohanpur Sub-division in West District. Their house is near the international border. We have arrested both of them,” Das explained.

He further elaborated, “They are involved in human trafficking. They have been engaged in these illegal activities for a long time. We have produced them before the court seeking police remand for further interrogation.”

The arrests mark a significant step in combating human trafficking activities in the region, underscoring the authorities’ commitment to tackling such criminal endeavors.
