Guwahati: Guwahati Police detained four persons and seized two vehicles on suspicion of smuggling cattle on Tuesday late at night.
The Basistha police carried out an operation during which two cattle-carrying cars were seized last night. The automobiles’ co-pilots and drivers were also detained.
According to police, up to 10 livestock were found in the two trucks.
Additionally, according to the police, the animals were being smuggled from Assam’s Darrang and Chhaygaon districts to Guwahati when they were discovered.
Officials added that the police had confiscated two vehicles with the registration numbers AS 01 MC 1162 and AS 13 AC 3332.
Meanwhile, the detained individuals have been identified as Manik Ali and Jahidul Islam, residents of Chhaygaon in the Kamrup district. The other two are Aajgar Ali of Hatigaon and Darrang’s Pankaj Das.
Police stated that the four were being questioned and added that they had been charged with illegal smuggling.
