Two Dead and Thirty Injured in Road Accidents in Assam’s Kaliabor
Kaliabor: A pall of gloom descended upon Kaliabor on Monday as two separate road accidents claimed the lives of two individuals and left 30 others, including several women and children, injured. The twin mishaps have once again brought to the fore serious concerns about road safety in the region.
In the first incident, a vehicle ferrying Bol Bom devotees met with a horrific accident at Rangalu. The ill-fated vehicle, bearing registration number AS-12-CC-1542, was reportedly returning to Dhekiyajuli from Sivasagar when its driver lost control. It veered off the road, collided with a tree, and then plunged into a gorge. The driver, identified as Lohit Roy of Dhekiyajuli, succumbed to his injuries on the spot. A total of 30 passengers, many of them women and children, sustained injuries and were promptly shifted to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
Meanwhile, in a separate and equally tragic incident at Harmoti, a young biker, Kitab Ali, was fatally struck by an unidentified vehicle from behind. Ali was reportedly returning home from the market when the hit-and-run occurred. Though rushed immediately to the Kaliabor Sub-Divisional Civil Hospital, he was declared brought dead by the medical staff, leaving his family in shock and grief.
Local police have initiated investigations into both incidents. Authorities are working to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the Bol Bom devotees’ accident, while the identity of the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run case at Harmoti remains elusive. These unfortunate events have deeply saddened the Kaliabor community and reignited urgent calls for stricter road safety measures and greater driver accountability.
