Two Dead during Janmashtami celebrations at overcrowded Banke Bihari temple in Mathura

Guwahati: At least two people died and numerous injuries are reported as a result of crowding during Janmashtami celebrations at a temple in Mathura of Uttar Pradesh.

The incident occurred in Banke Bihari temple during the midnight celebrations of Janmashtami.

According to reports, due to the overcrowding of the devotees during the event which resulted in death of two devotees- one man and one woman due to suffocation.

Reportedly, six people were found injured during the occasion and are immediately rushed to the hospital.

The birth place of Lord Krishna is considered as Mathura.

Over 150 members of the “Govinda Pathaks” community in Mumbai suffered injuries while participating in the construction of human pyramids for the Dahi Handi celebrations of the Janmashtami holiday.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reports that 153 Govinda Pathaks were hurt while constructing a human pyramid; 130 of them received medical attention and were later released, while 23 others are still receiving care.

At least 64 members of the “Govinda Pathaks” were reportedly hurt during Dahi Handi celebrations in Thane as well.

Hindus celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna on Janmashtami. According to the Hindu calendar, Lord Krishna was born on the eighth day of the month of Bhadra. He is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
