Two Elephants killed due to illegal Electric Fence in Assam

Guwahati: Man-Elephant conflict has been going in Assam for decades and this most of the time ends with the death of at least one of them. With these continuing, two adult female elephants were killed after they had come into contact with a live electric fence in Assam’s Baksa district.

As per forest officials, the electric fence was set up illegally by a local to protect his crops in the Koroibari area of the district. The elephants that were killed had come down from the forest areas to search for food and they regularly do.

As per a report, the person who had set the fences was identified as Reshan Daimary and he had surrendered to the police all by himself following the incident.

The police have booked Daimary under the Wildlife Protection Act and further investigation has been initiated
