Two Eminent Personalities From Assam Receive Padma Shri Award

Guwahati: Two eminent personalities of Assam recieved the fourth-highest civilian honour Padma Shri award on Wednesday in New Delhi.

The prestigious award was presented to the social worker Ramkuiwangbe Jeme Newme and the artist Hemoprova Chutia at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

The two eminent personalities received the award from President of India Droupadi Murmu.

Ramkuiwangbe Jeme Newme is a social worker who promotes indigenous culture and faith while Hemoprova Chutia is a handloom weaver with a unique style and skill. He also supported the education of girls and the empowerment of women.

On the official Twitter account of the President of India, pictures of the two award recipients accepting the honour were posted along with remarks describing their achievements to their respective disciplines.

The caption for Hemoprova Chutia read, “President Droupadi Murmu presents Padma Shri to Smt Hemoprova Chutia for Art. A handloom weave and artist of Assam, she has a unique style and skill in handloom weaving.”

Meanwhile, the caption for Ramkuiwangbe Jeme Newme reads, “President Droupadi Murmu presents Padma Shri to Shri Ramkuiwangbe Jeme Newme for Social Work. A social worker from Assam, he propagates indigenous culture and faith. He has also contributes towards women’s empowerment and girl education.”
