Two from Assam arrested with 50 KG of Meth in Mizoram
Guwahati: A police team arrested two persons from Mizoram’s Aizawl on Friday with a cache of at least 50 kilograms of contraband meth tablets amounting to crores.
Sources said that the arrested persons were identified as Mantu Kumar Deb and Subash Das. They were arrested near Sairang, a village with is 20 kilometres away from Aizawl.
During random checking of vehicles, a truck was intercepted by the on-duty police personnel. On checking the vehicle, around 50kg of meth tablets were recovered and the persons in the truck were immediately apprehended.
The exact worth of the seized consignment is yet to be officially announced but as per various reports, the consignment is worth around Rs 10 crore. Some other media reports also claim that the seized material might be worth Rs 100 crore.
The police further informed that both the accused hail from the Karimganj district of Assam. Following this, a case was filed against the accused under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Further investigation into the entire case is currently underway.
