Two including ‘Imam’ Detained in Goalpara over suspected links with ABT

Guwahati: In a major crackdown on terror, the Goalpara Police has detained two people including an ‘Imam’ of a mosque for suspected links with Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) on Saturday.

The detainees have been identified as Abdus Sobahan of Dakaidal and Jalal Uddin of the Matia area.

It is learned that Abdus Sobahan is the ‘Imam’ of Tinkoniapara Mosque and a teacher at Tinkoniapara Madrassa.

Jalal Uddin was taken into custody by the police on Saturday morning, while Abdus Sobahan was taken into custody on Friday night following a prayer in the mosque.

The Goalpara police are currently interrogating both of them.

Meanwhile, the mosque’s board and the family of the ‘imam’ called for an ‘Appropriate punishment’ if Abdus Sobahan was found guilty. Otherwise, they urged the police to release him immediately.

However, no information has beendisclosed as of now by the police officials.

It needs to be mentioned that Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) is a terror organization in Bangladesh that’s part of the Al-Qaeda network.
