Two killed and dozens injured powerful earthquake hits Japan
Guwahati: At least two people were killed and dozens injured in a powerful overnight earthquake that shaken a large part of east Japan, reports said on Thursday.
Early on Thursday, residents and officials in the country’s northeast were still assessing the damage caused by the 7.4-magnitude earthquake that struck soon before midnight.
A tsunami warning for waves of up to a metre was lifted in the early hours today in parts of northeast Japan, after authorities discovered water levels up to 30cm higher than usual in some regions.
It may be mentioned that on Wednesday night, a 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck east Japan, shaking the capital Tokyo. In the meantime, the Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning for areas of Japan’s northeast coast.
