Two Militants Nabbed, Cache of Weapons Recovered in Manipur Crackdown
Imphal: In a decisive counter-insurgency drive, security forces in Manipur apprehended two active members of proscribed militant groups in separate operations and seized a significant quantity of arms, ammunition, and tactical gear across multiple districts.
The operations, which reflect the ongoing efforts to dismantle insurgent networks in the region, were conducted under the jurisdiction of Imphal East, Imphal West, and Churachandpur districts.
The first arrest was made near the tri-junction of Laiharobam Leirak in Kontha Ahallup Makha Leikai under Heingang Police Station, where a 50-year-old cadre of the KCP (Lalumba) faction, identified as Wahengbam Ramananda Singh, was taken into custody. A resident of Kontha Ahallup Mayai Leikai, Singh was found in possession of a 9 mm pistol with magazine, two .32 caliber pistols with magazines, a total of fourteen live rounds of ammunition, and a mobile phone, pointing to his active involvement in underground activities.
On the same day, in another operation carried out under Lamsang Police Station in Imphal West, Angom Ajoy Meitei, a 32-year-old militant associated with the KYKL outfit, was apprehended from Phayeng village. Security personnel recovered a bulletproof jacket, bulletproof helmet, a military-style waist belt, a telescope, and a mobile phone from Meitei, suggesting his preparedness for high-risk operations and reconnaissance activities.
Further intensifying their campaign against militant elements, security forces launched extensive search and domination operations across vulnerable hill and valley regions of the state. A major breakthrough occurred in Saidan village under Churachandpur Police Station, where a large cache of weapons and tactical equipment was recovered. The haul included a .303 rifle with magazine, a 9 mm pistol, a modified carbine machine gun, a locally made single-barrel gun, and a modified 81 mm long-range mortar. Additionally, two locally fabricated “Pompi” guns, a short-range tear smoke shell, and a long-range tear smoke shell were also seized.
These targeted operations underline the heightened vigilance and robust coordination among state and central forces in curbing insurgent activity in Manipur. Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to restoring peace and maintaining law and order in the conflict-prone region.
