Two Senior Leaders from Nagaland Align with BJP, Boosting Party’s Northeast Presence
Northeast Desk, 3rd October: In a notable political shift, two influential leaders from Nagaland, Bobby Panicker and T Yangseo Sangtam, have formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This strategic development follows their recent meeting with BJP National President JP Nadda in New Delhi on Monday, signaling a significant enhancement of the party’s foothold in the Northeast.
Bobby Panicker, who previously held the positions of Working President and Treasurer of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), and T Yangseo Sangtam, the former Deputy Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, are both respected figures in local politics. Their transition to the BJP is indicative of a growing acceptance of the party’s ideology in the region, which has historically been dominated by various regional parties.
BJP leader and spokesperson Anil Antony commented on the implications of this political shift, stating, “Two very senior political leaders from Nagaland—Bobby Panicker and T Yangseo Sangtam—have joined our party.” He underscored the importance of their alignment with the BJP and revealed that their decision was largely inspired by their admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. “Inspired by the Prime Minister’s work, more and more people in the Northeast are embracing the BJP,” he added.
The entry of Panicker and Sangtam into the BJP could reshape the political dynamics in Nagaland, enhancing the party’s influence and potentially leading to increased electoral gains. As the BJP continues to broaden its appeal among key political figures in the Northeast, this development marks a critical step in its ongoing efforts to establish a stronger presence in the region.
