Guwahati: Two youths reportedly drowned in the Gaurang River at Bilasipara in Dhubri district of Assam.
The two boys were Bilasipara College students. They have been identified as Jagdish Nath who was a BSc second semester student and Gopesh Nath who was a BA second semester student.
The two boys reportedly visited to the river to take a bath along with a group of their friends. The incident took place at Udmari on Saturday.
As per the friends of the deceased boys, Gopesh was washed away by the raging river current while taking bath. Jagdish drove into the water in an effort to save Gopesh, but the river current carried him away as well.
Both the deceased boys were a resident from Gopigaon in Bilasipara.
Meanwhile, the Lakhmiganj Police has arrived at the spot of the incident. Search efforts are being carried out by the police and the State Disaster Response Team (SDRF) to retrieve the bodies of the deceased students.
