UGC Unveils Standardized Framework for Recognizing Foreign Academic Qualifications

Education: In a significant stride towards aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has officially announced the development of a comprehensive and standardized equivalence framework dedicated to the recognition of academic qualifications earned from foreign educational institutions. This initiative aims to cultivate a more globally interconnected education ecosystem within India.

The decision comes in response to persistent difficulties encountered by Indian students who return to their home country holding degrees from international institutions. These students have often faced cumbersome bureaucratic processes and unpredictable timelines when seeking recognition and equivalence for their hard-earned credentials. The UGC’s forthcoming framework promises a transparent and technologically advanced system designed to streamline the evaluation and equalization of foreign qualifications obtained from both schools and higher education establishments.

Speaking on this pivotal development, Professor Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar, the Chairman of the UGC, emphasized the transformative nature of this reform.
