UIDAI Holds Workshop On ‘Recent Initiatives For Simplifying Aadhaar Usage’ in Guwahati

Guwahati: The regional office of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) in Guwahati hosted a session at the state level on “Recent Initiatives for Simplifying Aadhaar Usage” on Monday.

The event was a part of an initiative to encourage states to use Aadhaar, according to a formal announcement.

Dr. M. ArizAhammed, IAS, Principal Secretary, Government of Assam, presided over the workshop.

While addressing the participants/officials, “he has highlighted that the gap between what governance should be and what governance is at the field should be reduced. He stated that Aadhaar was instrumental in delivering benefits without any bias of religion, caste, class or gender thereby instilling equality and development for all.”

The workshop was attended by senior government officials from Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim. Representatives from these four states gave in-depth presentations on the status of Aadhaar enrollment and the initiatives taken to implement the DBT and Aadhaar authentication system for disbursing benefits to the beneficiaries following their successful biometric authentication. Additionally best practices adopted by the states were also explained.

Devajit Khound, DDG UIDAI, RO Guwahati, spoke at the event and described how Aadhaar came to be the backbone of India’s digital public infrastructure. With the use of Aadhaar’s built-in qualities of uniqueness, authenticity, financial address, and e-KYC, the government has been able to approach residents directly to give various subsidies, benefits, and services.

In his speech, he also emphasised the use of Aadhaar in social welfare programmes to increase openness and visibility in the current system. He also urged state governments to give benefits to beneficiaries via Aadhaar Enabled Payment Systems.

All the sessions of the workshop deliberated on Aadhaar features, Key Developments on Usage of Aadhaar, Data Privacy &Information Security.

•          Senior official from DBT Mission discussed on the various identified Central Govt. schemes under DBT & its implementation procedures for the State Govt.

•          Officials from UIDAI HQ had discussed and highlighted the importance of DBT and the issuance of Section- 7Gazetted notifications for the schemes and benefits disbursed from the State Consolidated Fund. Discussions pertaining to Section 4(4)(b)(ii) was also held for issuance of notification under Good Governance.
