ULFA-I Linkman held by Tinsukia Police
Guwahati: A United Liberation Front of Asom – Independent (ULFA-I) linkman was arrested on Thursday from Bengaluru in Karnataka.
The arrestee identified as Ranjit Gogoi, a resident of Sadiya town in the district.
According to reports, a team of Tinsukia police from Assam apprehended Ranjit Gogoi.
Reportedly, it is believed that Gogoi is a close aide of ULFA-I cadre Gyan Asom alias Santosh Gogoi who was killed in an encounter at Kakopathar in the district.
Ranjit Gogoi was arrested from Bengaluru in connection with a Bordumsa police station case (Case No.29/22).
Tinsukia OC Poragjyoti Buragohain said, “A team of police led by Inspector Bhaskar Raj Baruah arrested Ranjit Gogoi from Bengaluru in connection with a Bordumsa police station case (Case No.29/22).”
“Based on our investigation, we came to know that said ULFA-I linkman Ranjit was involved in cash transactions with one Arun Gohain from Bordumsa whom we arrested earlier. Both Arun and Ranjit were in touch with slain ULFA-I cadre Gyan Asom frequently,” he added.
According to the police, Gogoi had deposited Rs 30,000 in Gohain’s account, which was then withdrawn and given to the friends of dead cadre Gyan Asom.
Gyan Asom was killed in a police operation in Kakopathar in the Tinsukia district.
The ULFA-I team was being led by commander Rupam Asom and reports stated that the team included Rinku Asom, Mriganka Asom and Uday Asom besides Gyan Asom.
Gyan Asom was killed in the fighting between the ULFA-forces I’s and cadres.
