ULFA-I Spy Accuses Assam Police SI Manash Chaliha of Betrayal, Claims Personal Connection in Video Release

Guwahati, 2nd February: The suspected Sub Inspector of the Assam Police, Manash Borgohain, allegedly held by the banned militant outfit United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-I), has accused Manash Chaliha, the zonal head of the police’s Special Branch, of attempting to disassociate himself from Borgohain to protect his own interests.

In a recent video release, Borgohain, supposedly sent by Assam police to spy on the ULFA-I camp, stated that Manash Chaliha knows him personally and talked about their connection. Borgohain claimed, “Manash Chaliha is lying when he says he doesn’t know me. He is trying to save himself. He knows me personally because my girlfriend, Sumi Borah, is an old friend of Pinky, Manash Chaliha’s girlfriend. They studied in the same school and hail from the same village. As their boyfriends, we also know each other. He is the zonal head of SB, looks after operations and training, and is involved in recruiting people.”

Borgohain further asserted that Chaliha is saying he is an organic farmer and not an SB officer to avoid any link if anyone gets caught. He accused Chaliha of giving special training to women recruits to honeytrap ULFA-I leaders and conducting surgeries on women for that purpose.

This comes after ULFA-I released a letter questioning Assam police for not taking action against Manash Chaliha. ULFA-I leaders warned that Chaliha’s remarks would be considered seriously and emphasized that neither their chief nor any member of the organization had called Chaliha.

In a confessional video released earlier, Borgohain admitted to being an SB sub-inspector since 2021 and working on a mission to spy on ULFA-I. He implicated Manash Chaliha and others in directing him for this mission. Manash Chaliha denied any connection with Borgohain, stressing his work outside Assam since 2012 and expressing anxiety and insecurity due to the video released by ULFA-I.
