ULFA(I) Blast Plot: Dibrugarh Duo Nabbed by NIA

Guwahati: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made significant strides in unravelling a sinister conspiracy by the banned terror outfit ULFA(I), arresting two more individuals in connection with the recovery of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Dispur Last Gate. The IED, found in August 2024, was reportedly part of a larger plan by the proscribed group to unleash a series of blasts across Assam on Independence Day.

The newly apprehended accused, identified as Bhargob Gogoi and Sumu Gogoi, both hail from Dibrugarh district. According to NIA officials, their direct involvement in the ULFA(I)-orchestrated plot to undermine India’s sovereignty, security, and integrity has been established. These latest arrests bring the total number of individuals apprehended in the ongoing case (RC-03/2024/NIA-GUW) to three.

The NIA had taken over the reins of the investigation from Dispur police in September last year, delving deep into the intricate network behind the terror plot. Last month, the agency had already filed a comprehensive chargesheet against three accused, invoking various stringent provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P)A), and The Explosives Substance Act. Further investigations in this high-profile case are actively underway, with officials hinting at more developments as the agency continues to dismantle the terror network.
