UNICEF Names Kareena Kapoor Khan and Nahid Afrin as Ambassadors, Strengthening Advocacy Efforts
Guwahati, 6th May: UNICEF India marked its 75th year of partnership with India by announcing the appointment of Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan and Assam’s popular singer Nahid Afrin, along with three others, as Ambassadors on May 4.
Kareena Kapoor Khan, an iconic figure in Indian cinema, has been appointed as UNICEF India’s National Ambassador. She will lend her support to furthering children’s rights to early childhood development, health, education, and gender equality. Since 2014, Kapoor has been a dedicated advocate for girls’ education, gender equality, foundational learning, immunization, and breastfeeding. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, she has emphasized the importance of children’s education and has actively supported UNICEF’s global campaigns, particularly #EveryChildRights.
Expressing her enthusiasm, Nahid Afrin, the popular singer from Assam, was appointed as UNICEF India’s Youth Advocate. Afrin sees this opportunity as a platform to amplify issues that many young people face, including mental health.
