Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Set to Present Interim Budget as Parliament Gears Up for Budget Session

National Desk, 31st January: As the Indian Parliament kicks off its budget session on January 31, all eyes are on Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who is poised to present the interim budget. This session holds special significance as it marks the final budget presentation of the current government before the nation heads to general elections in April-May.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the Finance Minister’s presentation with “disha-nirdeshak baatein” and highlighted the country’s ongoing progress. PM Modi noted that the tradition of presenting a full budget after the new government is formed will be followed.

The budget session commenced with President Droupadi Murmu’s joint address to both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha in the new Parliament building. The interim budget reflects the transitional period leading up to the elections, with the incoming government set to present the full budget in July.

Finance Minister Sitharaman’s role is crucial as she outlines the roadmap for the fiscal year 2024-25 on February 1st, shaping the government’s financial strategy and priorities. The session is expected to unfold over eight sittings across 10 days.

Although Sitharaman indicated the interim budget may lack major announcements, the government has set its economic narrative through a document titled “Indian Economy: A Review.” The Opposition is prepared to address various issues, including price rise, unemployment, and secularism threats.

Citizens can witness these pivotal moments through live streams on platforms like Parliament Live TV and channels such as Freeview Channel 232.
