Union Home Minister Amit Shah Asserts Inevitable Implementation of CAA at Kolkata Rally
National Desk, 30th November: The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) would undoubtedly and unstoppably be implemented by the Narendra Modi government, according to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s declaration on Wednesday. At a gathering in Kolkata to launch the party’s Lok Sabha campaign, Shah made this claim and blamed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her failure to stop infiltration in the state.
Shah alleged the illicit and open distribution of voter and Aadhaar cards to infiltrators in West Bengal. He questioned the possibility of development in a state plagued with high infiltration and implied that Banerjee’s opposition to the CAA is due to this reason. Shah emphasized that the CAA is a national law, and its implementation cannot be hindered.
Religious minorities from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh who came to India before 2015 are eligible to apply for citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), which was passed by the Indian Parliament in 2020. The CAA, according to the Trinamool Congress (TMC), is unconstitutional because it discriminates against Muslims and connects citizenship to religion in a country that is secular. Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Kumar Mishra had earlier stated that the Center is writing rules for the CAA and that the rules would be set by March 30, 2024.
