Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Chair Crucial Meeting with Northeastern States’ Chief Ministers
Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to chair a pivotal meeting with the chief ministers of the Northeastern states today, March 16. The meeting aims to review the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which has replaced the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in the region.
Shah’s day will commence with a visit to Kokrajhar, where he will address the 57th annual conference of the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU). Notably, ABSU was a signatory to the historic Bodo Peace Accord, inked five years ago. Following his address, Shah will proceed to Guwahati to chair the meeting with the chief ministers of Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Nagaland, and Sikkim.
The meeting will feature presentations from each state, highlighting the progress made in implementing the BNS thus far. It is worth noting that Manipur, currently under President’s rule following the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh last month, will also be represented, although the representative’s identity has not been disclosed.
Shah’s visit to the region commenced on Friday night, with his arrival in Assam. On Saturday, he inaugurated the upgraded Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Golaghat before flying to Mizoram. On March 16, Shah spent the night in Mizoram, where he attended an Assam Rifles programme during the day.
