Union Home Ministry: Third wave is much lower than the Second wave
Guwahati: India’s health ministry on Thursday presented a study of the 2nd and 3rd waves of the Covid-19 pandemic, noting the differences in the number of fatalities and vaccination coverage. For the first time, the health ministry has referred to the current outbreak as the country’s third wave of the epidemic.
In India, the health ministry stated the following about Covid 3rd wave:
- The top states contributing the most daily cases are Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Odisha, Delhi, and Rajasthan.
- In the week ending on January 19, 515 districts in India reported weekly case positivity rates of more than 5%.

- According to Dr. Balram Bhargava, director-general of the Indian Council of Medical Research in India the third wave is not as severe due to vaccine coverage.
- VK Paul, a member of the Niti Aayog’s Health Committee, stated that India’s overall positivity rate of 16 percent is extremely high. Omicron is to blame for the uptick, Paul added.
- The Union health ministry also gave a comparison of the 2nd and 3rd Covid surges in Delhi, demonstrating that the number of Covid beds occupied during the 3rd surge is low.
- According to the health ministry, adequate Covid-19 testing is carried out throughout the country. “There is no trend in one-day figures. If reduced testing and a lesser number of infections result in the future, we are not interested in that value. We present weekly data that demonstrates a pattern “According to Rajesh Bhushan.
