Union Minister Anurag Thakur Reaffirms Commitment to Northeast Development

Guwahati, 19th February: Union Minister Anurag Thakur reiterated the Narendra Modi-led government’s unwavering dedication to the comprehensive development of the Northeast region. Thakur emphasized the significant cultural and sporting contributions made by the eight northeastern states, shaping India’s diverse cultural landscape and achieving remarkable milestones in sports.

Addressing the historical neglect faced by the region under previous administrations, Thakur highlighted the proactive approach of the Modi government in fostering inclusive growth and prosperity in the Northeast. Initiatives like the ‘Act East Policy’ have replaced outdated strategies, signaling a renewed emphasis on harnessing the region’s vast potential.

Thakur praised the Northeast’s remarkable sporting prowess, particularly its role in hosting prestigious events like the Khelo India University Games. With the participation of over 4,500 athletes from 200 universities nationwide, these games exemplify the region’s growing influence in the sporting arena. Thakur specifically commended Assam for its instrumental role in hosting such events, citing the state’s rich legacy of sporting excellence as a driving force behind its success.
