Union Minister Bhagirath Choudhary Emphasizes Need for Better Infrastructure in Mizoram
Northeast Desk, 20th July: Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Bhagirath Choudhary, highlighted the critical need for improved road and railway infrastructure in Mizoram to bolster development in the tourism and agriculture sectors.
During his three-day visit to the northeastern state, Choudhary noted that Mizoram possesses significant potential for organic farming and is endowed with abundant natural resources. However, he stressed that the lack of proper infrastructure hinders the effective marketing of the state’s agricultural products across the country.
“Although there are good opportunities for selling Mizoram’s agro products in other parts of India, it will be challenging to take substantial steps without adequate road infrastructure and communication,” Choudhary told reporters on Friday.
He emphasized that the absence of proper road and railway lines creates significant difficulties for farmers in Mizoram. “The Centre and the state must work together to address this issue,” he added, advocating for improved inter-state and intra-state road and railway networks to develop tourism and uplift the economic conditions of farmers.
Choudhary also mentioned the Centre’s schemes to assist farmers whose crops have been affected by natural calamities, noting that compensation is based on reports or complaints submitted by the state government. Furthermore, he pointed out that while crop insurance schemes have been developed by the Centre, they are yet to be utilized in Mizoram.
The minister’s visit underscores the government’s commitment to addressing infrastructure challenges to unlock Mizoram’s full potential in agriculture and tourism.
