Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Review Key Development Projects in Assam
Guwahati: Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, met Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati on Friday for a high-level review of the state’s major development initiatives.
The meeting aimed to evaluate the progress of ongoing projects and chart a path for faster and more inclusive development across Assam.
During the deliberations, Minister Scindia reaffirmed the Centre’s role as an active partner in Assam’s development journey, stressing the need for a mission-mode approach to achieve 100% saturation of social objectives in Vibrant Villages. He called for measurable and lasting outcomes that would directly benefit the grassroots.
A significant part of the discussion revolved around the economic potential of agarwood. Recognising its global demand, Scindia emphasised the need to develop Assam’s agarwood sector as a high-value economic asset. He also advocated for value addition in the Muga silk supply chain, highlighting how empowering local weavers could boost income and elevate their position within the industry.
The meeting also reviewed Assam’s strides towards self-sufficiency in palm oil production, aligning with the national vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. Scindia lauded the state’s efforts in agricultural diversification and assured continued central support in scaling the palm oil initiative.
Tourism was another priority on the agenda, with both leaders sharing a vision to showcase Assam’s cultural richness and natural beauty on a global platform. Minister Scindia assured sustained collaboration from the Union Government to boost tourism, infrastructure, and sustainable livelihoods.
The session ended on a note of collective commitment, with both the Centre and the state government vowing to intensify coordination, accelerate project execution, and ensure equitable development that reaches every corner of Assam.
