New Delhi: Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar brought glamour and cultural pride to the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav fashion show at Bharat Mandapam on Saturday.
A standout feature of the three-day event, the fashion show spotlighted the Northeast’s vibrant cultural and stylistic traditions, celebrating the diversity of the region.
Following the event, Scindia shared his excitement on X (formerly Twitter), praising the talent and creativity on display. “Truly a celebration of culture and creativity! Each state was beautifully represented by talented artists and models,” he posted, emphasizing the event’s cultural and artistic grandeur.
Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav is envisioned as an annual celebration of Northeast India’s immense cultural and economic potential. The festival shines a spotlight on the region’s textiles, tourism, traditional craftsmanship, and unique Geographical Indication (GI) tagged products.
Beyond the fashion show, the Mahotsav offers a rich array of activities, including artisan exhibitions, state-specific pavilions, Grameen haats, and technical sessions delving into opportunities in handicrafts, handlooms, agriculture, and tourism. Visitors are treated to musical performances and indigenous cuisines, providing an immersive experience of the Northeast’s cultural richness.
Scheduled from December 6 to 8, the event is positioned as both a celebration of the Northeast’s heritage and a platform to highlight its economic and strategic significance in India’s growth story.
