Union Minister Nitin Gadkari Reviews Key Highway Projects in Northeast, Aiming for Accelerated Development
Sikkim: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has launched a comprehensive review of major highway projects across three northeastern states—Sikkim, Mizoram, and Meghalaya—underscoring the government’s commitment to fast-tracking infrastructure development in the region. The initiative aims to address connectivity challenges while promoting sustainable economic growth.
In Sikkim, Gadkari, along with Union Minister of State Ajay Tamta and Sikkim Roads Minister Nar Bahadur Dahal, examined 21 National Highway projects spanning 309 kilometres. The discussions focused on balancing rapid project execution with sustainability. “Our collective efforts aim to enhance connectivity across the region, which is crucial for driving economic growth and transforming Sikkim’s infrastructure for long-term progress,” Gadkari stated.
The minister then reviewed 24 highway projects in Mizoram, covering 572 kilometres, during a meeting with Chief Minister Lal Duhoma. Gadkari highlighted the transformative impact of improved road networks, stressing that these developments would not only strengthen connectivity but also stimulate economic activity and progress across the state.
In Meghalaya, Gadkari, alongside Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, evaluated 21 National Highway projects stretching 458 kilometres. The review reinforced the importance of robust infrastructure in fostering economic opportunities for the state.
Overall, these projects encompass over 1,300 kilometres of National Highways under development, representing a major investment in the region’s future. Gadkari’s initiative highlights the government’s focus on enhancing connectivity, driving regional development, and addressing long-standing infrastructure gaps in India’s Northeast.
