Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Flags Off ‘Run for Unity’ Marathon in Guwahati, Honouring Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel
Guwahati— Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the ‘Run for Unity’ marathon in Guwahati today, joining the nation in honouring Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first Home Minister, on ‘National Unity Day.’
The event, observed annually as ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas,’ commemorates Patel’s role in unifying India post-independence.
Expressing gratitude to the people of Assam, Sonowal highlighted the collaboration with the Port and Shipping Ministry in organizing the marathon, which he described as a meaningful way for citizens to pay homage to Patel’s legacy. “The unity and participation we see here is a true reflection of Patel’s vision for a united India,” Sonowal said.
Similar Unity Day events took place nationwide, with BJP Karnataka chief BY Vijayendra leading the marathon in Karnataka, where he urged youth to honour Patel’s sacrifices. In Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed participants at the Unity Run, underscoring the event’s role in fostering national unity and advancing the goal of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India). Shah noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had initiated the annual Unity Run in Patel’s memory, and this year, the event coincided with Dhanteras amid the Diwali celebrations.
The ‘Run for Unity’ has become a powerful symbol of India’s commitment to unity, with citizens across the country coming together each year to celebrate Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s legacy and his pivotal contributions to a united India.
