Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal To Inaugurate Technology Centre for Ports, Waterways & Coasts in Chennai

Guwahati: National Technology Centre for Ports, Waterways and Coasts (NTCWPC), IIT M – Discovery Campus will be officially inaugurated by Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways & AYUSH Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The NTCWPC was set up at IIT Chennai as part of the Sagarmala Programme at an expense of Rs. 77 crore. The institute serves as the Ministry’s technological branch and creates state-of-the-art tools and software to address the difficulties the ports and shipping industry faces.

For the Port, Coastal and Waterway sector across all disciplines, the Institute has world-class capabilities for carrying out 2D & 3D investigations of a research and consulting nature.

Modelling of Ocean, determining the Coastal & Estuarine Flows, Sediment transport and morpho dynamics, planning of Navigation and Maneuvering, estimation of Dredging & Siltation, consultancy in Port and Coastal Engineering – designing the Structures and Breakwaters, Autonomous Platforms & vehicles, Experimental & CFD modelling of flow & Hull interaction, Hydrodynamics of multiple hulls, Ocean renewable energy coupled with port facilities are some of the areas where expertise has already been developed for the benefit of the country.

The Institute supports the government’s Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat efforts in the aforementioned industries.
