Union Minister to Lay Foundation Stone for Tripura’s Largest Water Body
Agartala: Tripura is set to witness a significant development in its water resources as the state government plans to transform the Soteromiar Hawor wetland into the largest water body in the region.
Union Minister of Fisheries and Animal Husbandry, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, is expected to visit the state soon to lay the foundation stone for this ambitious project.
Located in Kailashahar under Unakoti district, Soteromiar Hawor is a historical wetland with a rich cultural and ecological significance. It is fed by the waters of two streams, Jarail Cherra and Bagua Cherra, and is renowned for attracting migratory birds from Siberia during the winter months.
Tripura’s Animal Resource Development and Fisheries Minister, Sudhangshu Das, confirmed the upcoming project during a recent review meeting. He stated that work on approximately 60 acres of land will commence shortly, and preliminary agreements with landowners have already been finalized.
The minister emphasized the importance of utilizing funds effectively and introducing innovative schemes for the welfare of the people. The state government aims to increase production in the fisheries and animal husbandry sectors in the Unakoti district.
