UNLF, SOPERA Millitants Held in Manipur’s Imphal
Guwahati: The Assam Rifles and Manipur police commandos launched separate operations that resulted in the arrest of two cadres from various militant groups that are prohibited.
Joint operations with Imphal East Police were started based on particular information feed provided by the Keithelmanbi Battalion of the Assam Rifles(South).
One active member of the outlawed Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA) was arrested during the operation on Friday night in the Imphal East district’s Ahallup Thongkhong, according to a news release from the defence.
According to the statement, the captured insurgent was actively involved in recruiting new members, engaging in extortion, and engaging in other subversive actions in the valley on behalf of the outlawed organisation.
The Assam Rifles Loktak Battalion arrested a member of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF), a group that has been declared illegal, during an operation near the Laingoubi Chingya Leikai Market Shed in Kumbi, Bishnupur on Friday night.
Following a tip-off, a group of police commandos and Assam Rifles soldiers undertook a joint operation that resulted in the arrest of the active cadre.
Reportedly, they were found to have some incriminating documents and a cellphone.
The apprehended cadres were handed over to the respective Police stations for further investigations, the statement added.
