UP Boat Tragedy: 8 Bodies Recovered Takes Death Toll To 11
Guwahati: Eight bodies were recovered from the Kishanpur ghat in Uttar Pradesh’s Banda district, bringing the death toll from Thursday’s boat capsize in the Yamuna has reached to 11.
According to reports, the incident occurred while the boat was travelling from Marka to Jarauli Ghat in Fatehpur district.
Reportedly, the people were on their way to visit relatives for Raksha Bandhan.
According to national media reports, police officials stated that the bodies of the victims are being identified and additional searches are being conducted by the them.
The National Disaster Response Force (NRDF), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and the Kishanpur Police are conducting rescue operations. According to officials, professional divers have been hired to search for additional victims.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to distribute Rs 4 lakh in disaster relief funds to the victims’ kin.
Prashant Kumar, the additional director general of police, stated that the NDRF, SDRF teams, and local divers were all involved in the rescue efforts on Friday.
A total of 17 people is still missing in the incident, he said, adding that the rescue operations had to be briefly halted due to incessant rains on Thursday night, however, the resumed next morning.
