UP Father Chains Daughter in Room for 36 Years, Rescued
Guwahati: A woman in Uttar Pradesh who had spent 36 years being chained in a room by her own father was freed by an NGO with the help of the police.
According to reports, the 53-year-old Sapna Jain was allegedly trapped in the room due to a mental ailment.
Sapna is a resident of Firozabad and all these years her family has been sneaking her food through the door. They also threw water at her from a window in order to give her a bath.
She was released this week thanks to BJP MLA from Hathras and former Agra mayor Anjula Mahaur.
They were informed about the case by members of local NGO Sewa Bharti.
Sapna was confined and denied access to freedom, sunlight, and clean air.
However, once her father passed away, things started to change, and a few women from the Sewa Bharti NGO came to her house to assess the situation.
They cleaned Sapna up and gave her new clothes after discovering her surrounded by trash and coated in it.
While this was going on, MLA Mahaur talked to her family and persuaded them to transfer her to an Agra mental health facility.
The MLA claimed that Sapna, then 17 years old, had been held captive in the chamber.
