UP: Truck Mows Down Kanwar Yatra Devotees In Hathras, 6 Killed

Guwahati: At least six people were killed and one person sustained serious injuries after seven Kanwar Yatra devotees were struck by a truck in the early hours of Saturday in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras.

According to reports, the incident happened at around 2.15 am in Hathras close to the Sadabad Police Station.

The additional director general of Police in Agra Zone, Rajeev Krishna said, “seven Kanwar devotees were struck by a truck at roughly 2.15 a.m. today near Sadabad Police Station in Hathras, resulting in five fatalities and one major injury. Another person has suffered a minor injury. They and their Kanwars were travelling from Haridwar to Gwalior.”

The police have assured that the matter is under investigation and the guilty will not be spared.

Meanwhile, schools in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad will be closed on July 25 and 26 in order to accommodate the Kanwar Yatra in Sawan.

Officials announced that educational institutions would remain closed in order to prevent traffic jams on both days with pilgrims out on the streets.
