Upama Bora Case: Committee Formed To Investigate Sivasagar BJP Leader’s Death

Guwahati: A committee of investigators has been established to look into the situation that resulted in the passing of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Upama Bora at the Pragati Hospital and Research Centre in Sivasagar of Assam.

According to information received, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar, Chandana Boruah, would preside over the investigation committee.

This occurs after popular BJP politician from Sivasagar Upama Bora passed away at the hospital, purportedly as a result of poor care.

Three senior doctors and an ACS officer will make up the investigating committee, it has emerged. Moreover, the hospital has been instructed to cease operations until the committee submits a report about the issue.

The patients who are now receiving treatment at the hospital have also been instructed to be moved immediately within today.

Moreover, according to reports, the investigating committee must submit a report on the case within 10 days.

It should be noted that Upama Bora (44), a well-known BJP politician in the Assamese Sivasagar area and the municipal ward commissioner for ward number 10, passed away on February 12 as a result of claimed mistreatment and improper care at Pragati Hospital.

Following her demise, tensions flared as family members and relatives along with BJP workers flocked to the hospital demanding an explanation. Family members alleged wrong treatment on the part of hospital authorities leading to her untimely death.

Upama Bora was reportedly brought to Pragati Hospital on the recommendation of Dr. Tankeswar Deori after she apparently developed a bladder infection. However, she passed away there while receiving treatment, escalating hostilities.

According to the deceased BJP leader’s relatives, hospital staff members were not even trained in the fundamentals of injecting patients. Furthermore, despite numerous calls, they claimed that the doctors would not visit the patient to check on them.

The husband of the deceased Upama Bora, Tridip Bora said, “Her sugar levels started decreasing gradually after which the doctors reduced her insulin dose which resulted in her sugar levels spiking. We informed the doctors from time to time, but they would only come twice a day to check on her.”

He said, “Every time the doctors would say the same thing. Even today I called them several times, but they have arrived just now, after my wife has passed away. They did not come even after knowing how serious her condition was getting and only after she was admitted to ICU that they come to check on her.”

In the meantime, family members and BJP workers engaged in verbal combat on the hospital grounds. To get the situation under control, police had to be called. They threatened to file FIRs against the police officers while demanding justice for the murdered Upama Bora.

While keeping the accused doctor, Tankeswar Deori, locked up with Upama Bora’s deadly remains in the hospital’s ICU ward, top district administrators and police forces also arrived at the scene to attempt and speak with the family members.

Following the occurrence, Tridip Bora’s husband filed a FIR at the police station accusing the accused doctor and the hospital administration, and as a result, an investigation into the matter was started.
