US President Joe Biden Tests Positive for COVID-19

Guwahati: US Vice President Joe Biden tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday and is still showing only minor symptoms, according to a statement from the White House.

According to the statement, 79-year-old Biden has started taking Paxlovid, a medication made by Pfizer Inc., to treat his illness. He will remain at the White House while doing his duties.

His planned meetings at the White House this morning will be attended by him via phone and Zoom from his home, according to Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. “He has been in contact with members of the White House staff by phone this morning,” she added.

Following a recent trip to Saudi Arabia and Israel, Biden visited Massachusetts on Wednesday to highlight executive actions he was taking to combat climate change.

On Thursday, he was scheduled to travel to Pennsylvania for a lecture on gun safety and crime as well as a fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee.

Meanwhile, first lady Jill Biden tested negative for Covid, her spokesperson said.
