US: Several People Feared Dead In Washington Mass Shooting
Guwahati: Several persons are feared dead after a mass shooting on Monday night in Northeast Washington, close to Capitol Hill.
The gunfire reportedly began in the 1500 block of F Street North East at about 8.30 pm (local time).
A tweet by the Metropolitan Police Department stated that there were numerous victims, although exact figures were not provided. No victims have been named, and as of yet, no suspect information has been made public.
A police spokesman, Officer Sean Hickman, confirmed that numerous victims had been discovered. According to The Washington Post, a neighbour who was among the many people gathered at the site as ambulances lined the street claimed to have heard at least 15 gunshots.
In recent years, there has been a rise in gun violence events across the US. In light of this, President Joe Biden has stated that either assault rifles should be banned in order to protect children and families, or the buying age should be raised from 18 to 21.
A mass shooting incident occurred on May 24 that left multiple people dead, including 19 children at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde of Texas. This attack has been the deadliest since the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre in Parkland, Florida, which left 17 people dead.
