US: Two Planes Collide at California Airport During Landing, 2 Dead
Guwahati: At least two persons were killed after two planes crashed while attempting to land at an airport in Northern California on Thursday.
A twin-engine Cessna 340 and a single-engine Cessna 152 are said to have collided just before three o’clock in the afternoon above Watsonville Municipal Airport.
There were three persons in all in the two airports, but it’s unknown if any of them survived.
The Cessna 340, which was carrying two passengers, veered into the wing of the Cessna 152, sending the smaller aircraft hurtling onto the airfield’s edge. The two aircraft collided while they were about 200 feet in the air.
No injuries were reported to people on the ground.
More than 55,000 operations are conducted annually at the city-owned airport, which has four runways and is home to more than 300 aircraft, largely for leisure or agricultural purposes.
Notably, there is no control tower at the airports to guide pilots as they arrive and depart.
The accident marks the third plane crash on Thursday to leave casualties in California.
