Uttarakhand Avalanche: Body of Dipsikha Hazarika Found

Guwahati: The body of Dipsikha Hazarika, who went missing in the avalanche in Uttarakhand has been recovered. The young mountaineer from Assam has been missing since October 4 after an avalanche struck Mount Draupadi Ka Danda-II in Uttarakhand.

Deepshikha Hazarika, a native of Guwahati’s Rajgarh area, has been missing for the past three days along with nine other climbing companions.

The Nehru Institute of Mountaineering had organised a training programme for a total of 29 persons, and on Tuesday as they were leaving the peak, an avalanche struck them at a height of 17,000 feet.

“19 bodies in total have been pulled out of the crevice. The Advanced Light Helicopter is attempting to transport the dead to the Matli helipad today “DGP for Uttarakhand Ashok Kumar had stated.

A heliborne effort was in progress but has been suspended owing to poor weather at the tragedy scene. Continuation of the service will depend on the weather.

Father and brother of Dipsikha have travelled to Uttarakhand to retrieve the body. The postmortem will be followed by the return of her body to Assam.

However, the three other bodies are yet to be recovered.
