Vaibhav Suryavanshi Smashes Youngest and Fastest Youth ODI Century, Seals Series for India U-19
India Under-19 has clinched an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match Youth ODI series, thanks to an extraordinary performance by Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The young sensation not only propelled India to a commanding 55-run victory in the fourth match on July 5 but also etched his name in the record books by smashing the fastest century in Youth ODI history.
Suryavanshi, who had a standout IPL 2025 season, seamlessly transitioned his explosive form to the 50-over format. His blistering knock of 143 runs came off just 78 deliveries, played at a staggering strike-rate of 183, and was adorned with 13 boundaries and 10 towering sixes.
The Indian colts, riding on Suryavanshi’s heroics, posted a formidable total of 363 for 9 in their allotted 50 overs. In response, the England Under-19 side was restricted to 308 runs in 45.3 overs, with Naman Pushpak leading the bowling attack with figures of 3 for 63.
However, the day truly belonged to the sensational 14-year-old Suryavanshi. He shattered the previous record for the quickest Youth ODI century, which was held by Pakistan’s Kamran Ghulam, who had achieved the milestone in 53 balls against England back in 2013. For an Indian, the fastest Youth ODI century was previously held by Raj Angad Bawa, who scored a 69-ball hundred against Uganda at the U-19 World Cup in 2022.
The remarkable feat saw the young left-hander bring up his century in a mere 52 balls, making him not just the fastest but also the youngest batter to reach a century in youth cricket. At 14 years and 100 days when he achieved this milestone, Suryavanshi surpassed Bangladesh’s Najmul Hossain Shanto, who had reached the three-figure mark at 14 years and 241 days.
This record-breaking innings is another feather in the cap for Suryavanshi, whose career graph continues to soar. He previously made headlines by becoming the youngest batter to score a century in the IPL, achieving a 35-ball hundred for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans. The prodigy from Samastipur, Bihar, also boasts the second-fastest hundred in men’s Youth Tests, scoring a 58-ball century against Australia U19 in Chennai last year, a record only behind former England all-rounder Moeen Ali’s 56-ball hundred in 2005.
His latest achievement drew high praise from Rakesh Tiwari, President of the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA). “This is a moment of immense pride for Bihar. Vaibhav Suryavanshi has not only brought glory to the state but has also made the entire nation proud,” Tiwari stated. “Achieving such a milestone at such a young age is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and mental strength. On behalf of the entire Bihar cricket fraternity, we congratulate Vaibhav and wish him a bright future.” Tiwari further expressed confidence that this is just the beginning for Suryavanshi, predicting that he will continue to rewrite cricket history with his exceptional talent and determination.
