Vicky Kaushal’s Blockbuster Chhaava to Stream on Netflix from April 11 After Monumental Box Office Success
Entertainment: Vicky Kaushal’s career-defining film Chhaava is set to make its digital debut on Netflix starting April 11, the streaming platform announced on Thursday. The release follows a stellar theatrical performance, where the historical biopic emerged as Kaushal’s highest-grossing film to date, outpacing his previous hits like Uri, Raazi, and Sam Bahadur.
Directed by Laxman Utekar and backed by Maddock Films’ Dinesh Vijan, Chhaava chronicles the valiant journey of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the courageous son of Shivaji Maharaj. Since its February 14 release, the film has captivated audiences nationwide, blending rich storytelling with Kaushal’s powerful portrayal of the Maratha warrior prince.
Netflix confirmed the streaming launch with a striking new poster and the caption, “Aale Raje aale. Witness a tale of courage and glory etched in time,” stirring anticipation among fans eager to revisit the epic from their homes.
Joining Kaushal in the ensemble cast are Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna, Viineet Kumar Singh, and Ashutosh Rana, all of whom received acclaim for their compelling performances. The film’s cultural impact soared further when Prime Minister Narendra Modi referenced Chhaava during the 98th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan in New Delhi. The Prime Minister praised the resurgence of Marathi historical narratives, citing author Shivaji Sawant’s novel Chhava as a foundation for the film’s resonance and remarking, “Aur in dino toh, Chhaava ki dhoom machi hui hai.”
Responding to the honour, Kaushal took to Instagram to express his gratitude: “Honoured beyond words! Grateful to Hon. PM Narendra Modi Ji. #Chhaava.” As the film now transitions to the OTT space, it is poised to reach an even broader audience, solidifying its place as one of the most influential cinematic offerings of the year.
