Vijay Kumar Sinha resigns as Bihar Assembly Speaker
Guwahati: Bihar Assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha announced his resignation on the floor of the House on Wednesday after an emotionally charged speech in which he expressed anguish over the no-confidence motion moved against him by the ruling ‘Mahagathbandhan’.
Sinha, a member of the BJP that has been deposed from office in the state, left the House in disarray as he postponed business till 2 PM.
He quickly left the chamber, and the BJP’s MLAs—almost all of whom were brandishing saffron scarves and shouting Bharat Mata Ki Jai and Jai Shri Ram—followed suit, according to PTI.
Earlier, Sinha spoke for almost 20 minutes, declaring that after the abrupt change in administration, he initially intended to step down on his own but changed his mind when he discovered that a motion of no confidence had been made.
It had become incumbent upon me to respond to the motion. Some of the members moving the motion alleged that I had been undemocratic and dictatorial. This I cannot accept, said Sinha.
