Vinai Kumar Saxena Takes Oath as Delhi’s Lt. Governor in Raj Niwas

Guwahati: Vinai Kumar Saxena took oath as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi at a ceremony at the Raj Niwas on Thursday.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his Cabinet colleagues, Union minister Giriraj Singh, Delhi MPs and MLAs, and top bureaucrats of the city government attended the ceremony.

This is the 22nd time Saxena sworn in as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.

Saxena the chairman of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), was named the new Lieutenant Governor of Delhi on May 23 after Anil Baijal resigned from the position on May 18.

A statement issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan informed that President Ram Nath Kovind accepted Baijal’s resignation and named Vinai Kumar Saxena as the new Lieutenant Governor.

Reportedly, Baijal, who served as Delhi LG for five years and four months, resigned due to personal reasons.

The statement added, “The President of India has been pleased to appoint Saxena as the Lt Governor of the National Capital Territory of Delhi with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.”

Saxena was appointed Chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission on October 27, 2015.

“I’ll work as a neighbourhood watchman. I’ll be seen on the highways more than at Raj Nivas. Pollution is a big issue in Delhi, and I will work with the Centre, the Delhi government, and local residents to address it. Workers in the unorganised sector would be educated ” Saxena said after taking the oath.
